The Unique Design of the HDR Contour TP Template
Allows Needles to be locked Simultaneously
while the Template's Inclined Backing
Contours the Sloping Surface of the Patient's Perineum!
HDR Contour TP Template  Patent No. US 6,579,262 B1
Shown above left: A 15.5 Gauge B&K Compatible HDR Contour TP Template with attached Protector Cone for safekeeping of protruding plastic needles. Right: A 17 Gauge,  B&K Compatible HDR Contour TP Template with an array of plastic needles typical for use with VariSource® remote afterloader (®Varian Associates) with an array of 17 Gauge Luer-Lock type Flexi-Guides)
HDR Contour TP Template:

The HDR Contour TP Template's inclining backing contours the sloping surface of the patient's Perineum. Once mounted on the stepping unit and placed flush against the Perineum, no additional adjustments are required. The template will remain fixed in this position relevant to the ultrasound probe. Upon completion of needle placement, the template can be sutured to the perineum. The sloping backing of the HDR Contour TP Template is provided with 4 suturing holes which, when positioned properly, will lay flush against the Perineum. Because of the contour, there is no "empty space" between the template and Perineum which eliminates the need for gauze or other means to be used as fillers. However, the template is hollow to allow for adjustment of needles best achieved with the use of the "Diddler"; a needle adjustment tool.
Features:

  • Template is "Contoured" to fit the Slope of the Perineum
  • All Needles Lock Simultaneously
  • Ideal Suturing Provisions
  • Prevents Template & Needle Displacement
  • Available for Various Needle Sizes
  • Lightweight Construction
  • B&K Compatible
  • Autoclaveable
OR and HDR Treatment Procedures

Lateral view of sutured HDR Contour TP Template's final position with protruding  Flexi-Guides and Stylets.

Note the HDR Contour TP Template's inclined back contouring the sloping surface of the patient's Perineum. (Legs are still in
Lithotomy position).
Flexi-Guide needles are locked with rigid obturators in place.

Patient is transferred from OR table to the stretcher. Legs are padded and placed on
soft-cushioned Leg Support.

The Leg Support not only offers patient comfort, it allows for the physician to easily access the template from the top, both sides and longitudinally if needle repositioning or corrections are required.

Patient is undergoing HDR treatment. Patient's leg position remains unchanged during the entire HDR procedure.

Legs are strapped onto the Leg Support and the Afterloader is connected to the HDR Contour TP Template by means of Source-guide Tubes. A sizeable corridor is provided between the patient's legs to connect the Guide-tubes between the template and HDR Afterloader.

Protector Cone--Catalog # 9807-PC   Patents Pending

Protector Cone:

The Protector Cone serves as a "needle guard". The template's protruding needles are easily accessible and accidental displacement can be averted by attaching the Protector Cone over the bundle of needles. During the time of the HDR treatment, the Protector Cone must be removed from the template to allow access and connection to the remote afterloading devices. Upon completion of treatment, the Protector Cone can be reattached to further protect the Flexi-Guide Needles from accidental displacement or inadvertent entry of matter into the Flexi-Guides which could restrict the HDR source from entering the channels.  The Protector Cone can be Gas Sterilized only! (ETO)

Protect Flexi-Guide Needles at all Times!
The docked Protector Cone protects the needles from inadvertent tampering by the patient.  The HDR template is suspended and "off" the mattress.
